The manuscript has been revised to more clearly articulate the comparison between Omicron and the Wisconsin cryptic lineage (now labelled WI-CL-001). Summary, Methods, Results and Discussion text have been re-apportioned to better fit with Lancet Microbe guidelines. The in-text methods section is now more comprehensive than previous versions.
